Tween and Teen Take-Home Kit: Cinco de Mayo Cultural Craft
Pick Up Your Kit Beginning
Thursday, May 1st
Teens and Tweens are invited to the library to pick up a take-home craft kit in celebration of Cinco de Mayo!
Each kit includes a brief history of the holiday, a package of delicious Mexican Wedding Cookies, and all the materials you'll need to create your very own Huichol Yarn Painting. This vibrant art form is inspired by the sacred Nierikas of the Huichol people of Central Mexico.
Explore the rich culture and traditions of the Huichol people while discovering the symbolism behind their beautiful yarn paintings and the significance of Cinco de Mayo. Create your own masterpiece from the comfort of your home with this kit!
Kits will be available for pickup starting May 1st and can be collected throughout the month. Registration is required and will be open throughout May until all kits are reserved. Please register for a kit online here.
Please note that the South Park Library’s programs are designed with specific age limits in mind to align with the developmental skills and needs of each age group, ensuring an appropriate and engaging environment for all participants. These take-home kits are exclusively for tweens and teens aged 10 to 18.
"I Survived" Book Club for Tweens
Monday, May 5th at 6:00pm
Calling all fans of the "I Survived" series! Tweens ages 10-12 are invited to join our I Survived Book Club. Join us on the first Monday of every month where we will delve into a different book from the series while enjoying snacks as well as crafts and activities based on the book selection! We will be reading "I Survived the Joplin Tornado, 2011" by Lauren Tarshis for our meeting. Join us for a discussion about the book, watch brief footage of the tornado’s impact, and dive into hands-on activities, including exploring the science of tornadoes with a DIY tornado in a jar experiment and crafting a colorful tornado safety plan collage using magazines and other materials. Participants should read or listen to the book prior to the book club meeting. If you do not finish the entire book, you are still welcome to attend the event. Tween Brickmaster Lego Club

Calling all Tweens (ages 10-12)! Join us for Tween Brickmasters, our Tween Lego Club where creativity meets fun! Each month, we’ll tackle a new building challenge, enjoy snacks, and let our imaginations run wild. This month’s theme is a LEGO Mystery Speed Challenge! Test your creativity and quick thinking by scooping up a random selection of LEGO pieces—whatever lands in your cup is what you’ll use! Race against the clock to build the most inventive creation using only the bricks you’ve drawn. LEGOS are provided, so just bring your creativity! This is a fantastic opportunity to meet other tween LEGO enthusiasts, make new friends, and have fun in a relaxed environment!

Pokémon Young Trainers: Tween Pokémon Club

Attention Pokémon Trainers (ages 10-12)! It's time to "catch 'em all" at our Tween Pokémon Club! Join us on the last Wednesday of every month to dive into the world of Pokémon. Chat with fellow enthusiasts, play games, enjoy snacks, and make new friends. Whether you bring your cards, games, or mobile device, or borrow one of our decks, there’s fun waiting for everyone!
