Friends of the South Park Library

The South Park Township Library’s story began in 1960 when the Windover Hills Women’s Club created the first free public library.

On October 2, 1974, the Friends of the South Park Township Library was established, and since then, they have raised nearly $300,000, organized programs, and fueled the Library’s development. Much of this success was due to Cathie Humphreys, who served as President for an impressive 40 of the Friends’ first 50 years, guiding the Friends’ impactful contributions. On October 2, 2024, the Friends are celebrated their 50th anniversary, commemorating five decades of extraordinary service and support with a year-long celebration that included:

– A festive “50th Anniversary Cake” float at the Community Day Celebration, paired with Mini-Golf and sweet treats for sale.

– A 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner, where President Cathie Humphreys received special recognition from local and state officials.

– A variety of fundraising events, such as book and craft sales, fitness classes, chocolate bar sales, “Blind Date with a Book,” and raffles, with proceeds helping to fund library programs and initiatives.

– The launch of an official Friends of the South Park Township Library Facebook page, complete with a modern logo and tagline to represent their dynamic future.

The mission of the Friends is clear: to raise funds for the Library’s Building and Expansion Fund, promote and support educational and cultural programs, and foster a sense of camaraderie and community involvement.
