Borrowing Digital Items
Digital items, including e-books and audiobooks can be borrowed from Libby and Hoopla with an active library card.
Libby is a free app where you can enjoy ebooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines . You can stream titles with Wi-Fi or mobile data, or download them for offline use and read anytime, anywhere. All you need to get started is a library card. Libby allows users to borrow 10 digital items at one time and have holds on 10 digital items at one time. To initially access Libby, users are required to enter the PIN associated with their library card.
Hoopla is a free service that allows you to borrow eBooks, audiobooks, comics, movies, and TV on a web browser, phone, tablet, or TV. Hoopla allows users to borrow 5 items per month. As of May 1, 2026, Allegheny County libraries have implemented a daily spending cap on Hoopla. This sets a dollar amount limit, that once reached, will pause Hoopla check outs until the next day. This limit applies to all check outs across the Allegheny County library system and does not affect your 5 items per month.
