How to Place a Hold for Library Materials
Want to borrow a book or have a specific item you want to request? Here’s how to place a hold through the Allegheny County Library catalog.
Step 1: Log In to Your Account
- Visit acl.bibliocommons.com.
- Click “Log In / My ACL” in the top right corner.
- Use your library card number and PIN. (Ask staff if you need help finding these!)
Step 2: Search for the Book (or Any Library Material)
- Use the search bar to type in the title, author, or keywords.
- Press Enter or click the magnifying glass icon.
Step 3: Check Availability
- Find the item you’re looking for.
- Look for the “Place a Hold” button next to the title.
- If it’s available at another library, you can still request it!
Step 4: Place Your Hold
- Click “Place a Hold.”
- Choose your pickup location (South Park Library or another ACL branch).
- Click “Place Hold.”
- A confirmation message will appear once your hold is placed.
Step 5: Wait for Notification
- You’ll get an email or phone call when your item is ready.
- Holds usually take a few days depending on availability.
Viewing Your Holds
- Log in to your account.
- Click “On Hold” under your profile to see all active requests.
